Highwire Poetry

It’s almost midnight and there is a good 35 degrees in my rehearsal space where I’m trying to straighten out Main stage set for next week’s Urban outfitters gig. I’m doing it alone then and there is a lot of things that needs to be worked out. I’ve been here 8 hours today so I need bed time…..wow, we are releasing the album next week. Cool. Very cool. The reviews has been great so far. It feels right. It’s coming together……zzzzzzz.

Gonna listen to Antony & the Johnsons “Fistful of love” in bed.

I did my share of multi-praying this Sunday I can assure you.  Stansted express was going no where due to signal failure, and I had to get to the airport. God didn’t answer and I missed the plane by an hour. 20 hours of traveling  later I could finally go to bed in a remote village in western Norway. The reason for this trouble was The great Escape in Brighton. I can’t believe people haven’t told me about Brighton before. I was euphoric after 2 hours of sleep the night before.  I bought Throbbing Gristle’s Greatest hits in the city’s oldest record shop.
We were playing in Brighton’s Urban outfitters shop which could have been a disaster but wasn’t really. It worked out. We also played a gig at Concorde 2 together with Dan Le Sac and Nathan Fake and because of a serious cold my voice sounded like GG Allin’s later days by the end of the night.
David complained all day but played like a God. I wanted to give him a  punch in the face and I think he thought the same thing about me. We ended up with a hug in the end. We are sister and brother after all.
Next gig up is 27th of May in Berlin together with Ting tings and Marina & the diamonds. High wire poetry is released in England the 28th of May.
Can’t wait.

I visited my grandmother at the hospital today. She says she’s got a tumor in her lung. I don’t remember her ever being sick before.  I used to stay with her all the time when I was a kid. We recorded songs on cassettes. She played the piano and I sang until the cassette was filled.  I could go on and on and so could she. We never got tired.  On the first cassette I am three years old.
When I went to school, I used to jump off the bus at her house and stay there until my parents came and got me. I missed her a lot when we lived in Japan.
She also bought me my first pair of Levi’s jeans in the states.
This picture is taken where I rehearse my songs. In the church I live in, where grandma wants to have her funeral.
I’ll give her the most beautiful funeral anyone have ever seen.

I’ve been in London for a week now doing some interviews for the album and I ended up at Lexington Wednesday night for Gallon Drunk concert. Warming up for them did Underground Railroad who I really liked. A weird sensation when the guitarist and the drummer mixed their voices over the ghostly shoegaze-krautrock kind of sound.  Their bass player looked like Donald Draper trying to be Jarvis Cocker in a not so very good way but I tried to avoid looking at him. Anyway, here’s a picture of their lovely guitarist Marion.

We did a video shoot this weekend in my house and garden. One of my best friends Olle Lundin filmed and directed it. I think it is the first time someone made a music video in my home town.  My brothers and sisters did lights and my cousins and friends helped out with everything. They cooked food, carried things around, rigged the scene and checked my hairdo. It was so much fun. My brother also set fire to my home made synthesizer that I had built from old and rusty pipes from my now dead plummer-neighbor’s shed. David enjoyed it a lot. The whole village lit up and we played Restless loud on speakers outside until 2 in the morning. Best easter I’ve ever had.

Hey you people who follow me here!  I need your love as always. This time, attention on hype machine is needed. Can we do this?  Check the link below and help me get the music out there.

Love, KP
